Avoid Freezing

As we get into the winter season, be sure to protect your pressure washer from freezing. Broken fittings, pipes, unloaders, pumps, hoses, and coils are what broken hearts are made of in the Wash Business.       When water freezes pressure reaches around 30,000 psi, so it is no wonder that pipes and fittings rated for 3,000 psi working pressure fails.

There is a number of ways to ensure that a damaging freeze does not break your unit and heart. One is to store the unit inside a heated area. Another is to make sure all the water is out of the unit, by draining or using air to push the water out. In my opinion, neither of these two efforts is reliable.

To insure that the machine can go out in any weather or to be moved back to the shop no matter how cold the weather, I suggest that an anti-freeze mixture be used to protect all parts. This is easy on float tank units, where it is just a matter of pumping all the water out of the float tank and adding the mixture.

On units that are supplied directly by a water hose an anti freeze hose will be needed. Call Can-Clean at 905-568-4868 and we will supply an anti freeze kit, or we will even  tell you how to make your own.
